Lighting accessories are all those components that complement, modify, connect, control, or beautify luminaires and light sources. They are essential for both the functionality and aesthetics of any lighting system, from a simple table lamp to a complex industrial installation.
Here are the main categories of lighting accessories:
1. Light Sources (LED Bulbs and Lamps)
Although they are often considered the "main part" of the lighting, technically they are an accessory to the luminaire that provides support and connection.
Types:
LED: The most dominant technology. They include LED bulbs (with different sockets such as E27, E14, GU10, G9), LED strips (with or without aluminum profiles), LED panels, integrated LED modules.
Halogen, Fluorescent and Low Consumption (CFL): Although less common today, they are still used and require specific accessories.
Discharge lamps: For industrial or large space lighting.
Characteristics to consider: Socket, power (W), luminous flux (lumens), color temperature (Kelvin), opening angle, color rendering index (CRI).
2. Electrical and Connection Components
Essential for the luminaires to work safely and efficiently.
Lamp Holders/Sockets: Parts where the bulb is screwed or connected (e.g. E27, E14, GU10, G9, G4, etc.).
Electrical Cables and Conductors: For connection to the mains. They can be decorative (textile) or standard.
Connection Strips and Terminals: To join cables safely.
LED Drivers and Transformers: Necessary for LED or low voltage lights to work correctly, converting the electrical current.
Connectors and Adapters: To join different sections of LED strips, or adapt one socket to another.
3. Control Systems and Switches
Allow you to turn on, off, regulate and program the lighting.
Wall Switches: Simple, switched, crossed.
Dimmers: To adjust the brightness of the light.
Remote Controls: Infrared (IR) or radio frequency (RF).
Motion and Presence Sensors: For automatic lighting in hallways, bathrooms, outdoors, etc.
Twilight Sensors: So that outdoor lights turn on at dusk and off at dawn.
Smart Lighting Systems: Allow you to control the lighting through mobile apps, voice assistants or home automation systems (e.g. with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave technologies). They allow programming, color change (RGBW), dimmable color temperature (CCT).
Timers: To program the on and off.
4. Structural and Mounting Components
They ensure the fixation and positioning of the luminaires.
Supports and Clamps: To fix luminaires to ceilings, walls or poles.
Suspension Cables: For hanging lamps, often adjustable in height.
Bases and Ceiling Roses: Pieces that cover the electrical connection in the ceiling and support the lamp.
Rails and Adapters for Tracks: For track lighting systems, which allow moving and reorienting spotlights.
Aluminum Profiles for LED Strips: They serve to dissipate heat, protect the strips and give a more professional aesthetic finish.
5. Optical and Decorative Elements
Modify the light or improve the appearance of luminaires.
Screens and Tulips: Made of fabric, glass, metal, plastic, etc., to diffuse the light, direct it or simply decorate.
Diffusers: Plates (often acrylic or opaline) that distribute the light evenly and prevent glare.
Reflectors: Surfaces that direct the light in a specific direction.
Lenses: To concentrate or disperse the light beam.
Trims and Rosettes: Decorative pieces to cover holes or connections in the ceiling or wall.
Color Filters: To change the color of the light.
6. Maintenance and Safety Accessories
Connectors and Repair Kits: For luminaire maintenance.
Gaskets and Seals: To maintain the watertightness of outdoor or bathroom luminaires (IP ratings).
Specific Tools: For the installation or handling of certain lighting systems.
