A design story reborn.
Originally conceived in 1963 and reinterpreted in 2025, the Seki-Han Floor embodies the timeless genius of Tobia Scarpa, one of the great names in contemporary design. In this new edition, Flos reinterprets one of his most delicate creations, maintaining its artisanal spirit while equipping it with the technical precision of modern LED lighting.
The result is a luminaire that seems to breathe and move with the light, a living sculpture that transforms the environment through the interaction between matter and immateriality. Its name, Seki-Han, comes from a traditional Japanese rice dish served at celebrations, symbolizing the union between the everyday and the exceptional, between the human and the poetic.
Design and materials of excellence
The structure of the Seki-Han Floor is composed of two vertical sheets of ash wood, joined by chromed metal fittings that provide contrast and precision. These slats rotate smoothly around a central tubular light source, allowing the light diffusion to be modulated according to their position. This versatility enables both direct, intense illumination and a more diffused, intimate light, adapting to the user's needs and the character of the space. The untreated black iron base, separated from the slats by a structural neck, reinforces its sculptural character and stability, while highlighting the warmth of the ash wood and the gleam of the metallic details. Each element has been designed with almost architectural precision, evoking the construction techniques of shipbuilding, where every curve and every joint has both a functional and aesthetic purpose. Light as an emotional experience. The Seki-Han Floor does not simply illuminate a space: it transforms it into a sensory experience. Its dimmable linear LED light source—custom-developed for this piece—offers soft, enveloping illumination with exceptional color purity (22W - 2700K - CRI > 80). Furthermore, it can be fitted with standard T8 LED tubes, providing flexibility and ease of maintenance without compromising its sophistication. The movement of the wooden slats allows control of the light beam, creating a changing and poetic visual effect. Even when the lamp is almost closed, a fine thread of light continues to filter between the surfaces, evoking the delicacy of dawn or the glow of fire through a wooden blind. An iconic piece for spaces with soul. The Seki-Han Floor is ideal for interiors seeking distinction, serenity, and character. Perfect for spacious living rooms, elegant offices, or contemporary design spaces, this lamp not only illuminates but also adds an emotional presence to the environment. It is a light fixture that invites contemplation, transforming light into matter and matter into emotion.
